From Hilversum to Drachten

The previous week we were in northern Italy at Lago d'Idro, where we had been several times before. The plan was to fly to a field south-west of Lake Garda, but unfortunately the weather over the Alps got in the way of our plans, and we had to fall back on the car.

By now we were back from Italy and back to work, but we were able to free up the second half of Wednesday afternoon for a little flight. It had been three and a half weeks since our last flight.

We called Ronald to get the plane out of the hangar, and headed for the airport. On the way to the airfield, René checked the weather and the notams: cavok and no reports of interest. We called the airfields of Drachten and Hoogeveen to let them know we would be coming.

May 4 is the commemoration of the second world war in the netherlands, and the airfields therefore closed earlier at 7 pm. But we planned to be back at Hilversum by 6 pm. After pre-flight checks and a little extra fuel, we were off.

We flew along the west coast of Flevoland first to Oldeberkoop, not far south of Drachten, to make an orbit around the house of a friend of Veleda. Then we continued to Drachten, where we had a coffee.

From Drachten to Hoogeveen

We saw the old Cessna 172 PH-BVL that is now stationed at Drachten. It used to fly from an operator at Lelystad. Coincidentally, it was also the aircraft with which Rene flew to Drachten for the first time.

After coffee, we headed out for a short leg to Hoogeveen Airport. There's really not that much to say about it. We also took a cup of coffee there.

From Hoogeveen to Hilversum

The final leg that completed the triangle was back to Hilversum. Recently, René had also been to Hoogeveen a few times, flying the route from Hoogeveen to Hilversum. All in all it was nice to go out for a while. We were back at 6 in the evening.

We spoke briefly with a fellow user of the Cessna about how many hours were left on the plane until the next inspection, and he took a picture of us together.

For convenience, we ate French fries at the stand at the entrance to the airport and then went on our way. In the evening we would also hear if our expecting grandchild would be a boy or a girl. It's a girl.
